Customer Service: The Job

You normally work to help others. Whether in management or a representative answering the phone, your job is to provide expert assistance to those you serve. Many companies provide support to their customers with an inbound call center staffed with well trained, pleasant customer service representatives (or reps). And you gain a sense of satisfaction for a job well done.

Customer service centers handle in-coming calls which are automatically routed through a special automated switch board called an ACD or simply "switch".

Customer service representatives are expected to handle paperwork and communicate with customers via e-mail in keeping with today's constantly changing and growing technologies. To do so, reps must be trained to take full advantage of the technology.

Many reps enjoy their jobs because they grow and gain new technology and interpersonal communication skills. Such new skills are important because they may lead to better jobs with better pay.

Work at Home Jobs    Click On The House To See Home Based Jobs!

Many Call Center Jobs are with companies that allow the employee to work at home.  These home based jobs (also called "virtual jobs") can be with small or lage companies.  Some require tenure and a good performance track record prior to allowing the employee to work at home, others not.

Some of these home based jobs are 100% work-at-home, others may involve travel - so be sure to read the job description carefully.  For instance, a company may need a sales executive who sells call center services.  This person may work out of their home office, but could spend 25% to 75% of their time traveling to client locations.
